Council Keeps Easier Access To Riverboat Funds

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Dearborn County Council will continue to require only a simple majority to tap into the county’s riverboat savings.

Since 1998, county council had required a unanimous 7-0 vote to use the riverboat funds. In December, council changed the procedure to require only a regular majority vote as they tapped the fund to help pay for an expansion of the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, councilman Dan Lansing motioned to once again require an unanimous vote to use the riverboat savings. The motion failed 4-3.

Voting to keep the simple majority vote were Bill Ullrich, Bryan Messmore, Marnard Barrett, and Liz Morris. “Aye” votes came from Lansing, council president Dennis Krause, and Jim Hughes.

Earlier in the meeting, council voted 4-2 to allow Dearborn County Commissioners $72,000 towards the jail project for hiring a construction manager and soil testing.

Projected costs for the jail expansion have hovered between $8.4 million and $9.3 million.
