Construction Could Start This Week On New Greendale Trail

The over one-mile trail will connect Greendale to the LCD playing fields.

(Greendale, Ind.) - A walking and biking trail is coming soon to the City of Greendale.

City of Greendale Mayor Alan Weiss tells Eagle Country 99.3 that land transfers and other key steps have been completed to make the Greendale Trail become a reality.

"I want to thank Lawrenceburg Conservancy and Paul Seymour for working with the City of Greendale to make this trail a reality," said Weiss.

The Greendale Trail will be constructed at the bottom of the hill behind the utility building on Ridge Avenue and near the SAY Soccer Fields. The trail will connect to the LCD playing fields near the levee.

Weiss says the trail will be for bikers and walkers only. Golf carts and other motorized vehicles will be prohibited.

Bikers and walkers will access the trail from the roadway behind the utility building. There are plans to widen the road and lessen the steepness as much as possible, according to Mayor Weiss.

"Travel at your own risk," Weiss added.

Another part of the trail will connect Ridge Avenue to the LCD playing fields near MGP.

The City of Greendale is using a $200,000 grant to help fund the project.

Construction is expected to start this week with a project completion date scheduled for July 2022. Restrooms will be part of construction.

There have also been talks about a potential future trail system that would connect to trails in Hamilton County, Ohio, in particular Shawnee Lookout.
