(INDIANAPOLIS) - With colleges around the state starting classes, many students and soon-to-be graduates will begin the search for an internship. Students looking for on-the-job work experience should apply for a paid internship with the Indiana House Republicans at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Internships are a great way for students to build on what they've learned in the classroom while also strengthening their resumes. Positions are open to sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as recent college graduates, and law school and graduate students. All majors are welcome and previous political or government experience is not required.

Interns serve many roles during the legislative session, which will run from January to mid-March in 2022. Legislative interns help track and research bills, and communicate with constituents. Communications and media relations interns write news releases, produce video and audio segments, and help with graphic design and media relations. Students interested in research can assist the policy and fiscal policy departments with analyzing and tracking legislation, and preparing committee reports.

Besides working closely with lawmakers, the House Republican internship is an opportunity to build professional connections with other leaders from across the state and sharpen skills that translate to any career. Many of our interns go on to work in full-time roles, either at the Indiana Statehouse with our team, with state agencies or the private sector. Regardless of the career paths they choose, this opportunity helps build practical experience.

Interns receive a $750 bi-weekly stipend with the opportunity to apply for a $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses. The internship is full time, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and many schools offer academic credits for the internship as well. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.
