City Of Aurora Mayor Issues Emergency Executive Order

A proactive approach is being taken as a precaution to the Coronavirus pandemic.

(Aurora, Ind.) - In light of the trying times we all face an Emergency Executive Order was issued on March 16, 2020 by Mayor Drury, closing public access to all City facilities. Currently, all offices will remain staffed and operating as normal.

We are all in this together and I encourage everyone to take the guidelines handed down from the State and Federal Government serious, including practicing social / physical distancing of at least 6 feet, avoiding gatherings of greater than 10 people, contacting your primary care provider if you have been in contact with someone or if yourself or someone in your household has / had a fever and /or are encountering the symptoms of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and staying home if you are sick. I encourage you to continue supporting our local businesses and restaurants by ordering takeout and delivery but not congregating and staying home for any unnecessary travel.

Most importantly, check on your family, neighbors, loved ones and those of us who are most vulnerable. Call when possible and offer to pick up items at the grocery store and other essential errands.

Again, City Hall and all department offices are closed to the public, the community should call the office for assistance, 812-926-1777. This includes the Aurora Police Department who for non-emergencies can be reached by calling 812-926-1101 ext. 2.

The City will need our first responders and enforcement officers to be healthy now more than ever and we are taking precautions necessary. Responses to non-emergencies will be conducted over the phone, officers will avoid entering homes and will prioritize filing charges over making arrest when violators are complying with orders. Continue calling 9-1-1 for emergencies or use the emergency phone on the outside, in front of the police station, on Main Street, near the Third Street Intersection.

All first responders and enforcement officers are communicating and taking proper precautions to protect themselves and forewarn each other, dispatch, and hospitals of a potentially infected individual.

Residents and businesses paying utility bills should use the drive-thru drop box at the utility office or follow the online payment steps on the department's website to pay online — aurora.in.us/city-utilities.html

For matters pertaining to the Clerk Treasurer, you must call in advance to arrange for payment. Park reservations will be canceled and reassessed weekly after March 30th . Anyone with a reservation canceled because of our current crisis will receive a full refund upon contacting the Clerk Treasurer's Office at 812-926-1777 ext. 1.

The Aurora Recreation and Community Center (ARCC) will remain closed until March 30th at which time weekly reassessments will begin. ARCC reservations canceled during this crisis will be fully refunded by calling 812-290-1070.

Curbside recycling will continue as planned, however the City does not have the capabilities to properly clean and sanitize public park facilities. Public restrooms will be closed and the community is urged to use precaution when using park facilities.

We understand the inconvenience this has caused the public, but we are treating the potential threat of this virus with the seriousness it deserves. We will all continue hoping that our area is not hit hard and that all this planning was done unnecessarily.
