Community Action Recovery Effort and the City of Lawrenceburg are taking on substance abuse. You can get and update and free dinner August 13.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - To celebrate a year in action, Community Action Recovery Effort (CARE) and the City of Lawrenceburg are hosting a dinner, free to the public, on August 13, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lawrenceburg Event Center.

Speakers include Kelly Mollaun (Mayor of Lawrenceburg), Douglas Huntsinger (Special Assistant for Drug Prevention, Treatment and Enforcement from the Indiana Governor’s Office), Rebecca Buhner (Deputy Director of Addiction and Forensic Treatment at Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction), members of 1Voice (Recovery Community Organization), and Brenda Spade (One Community One Family and CARE Coordinator).

According to Mayor Mollaun, “after hearing from the citizens asking what this administration could do to address substance abuse, addiction, and overdoses in our community, we tried something outside of the box.  This brainstorm developed into the CARE initiative and I am amazed at how far we have come in such a short amount of time, so it is time to do what we do best and come together.”

While Mayor Mollaun is encouraged by the strength and growth of CARE, he adds “this is just the start of much more work ahead.”

Community Action Recovery Effort (CARE) is the Recovery Oriented System of Care for Dearborn County. It is a collaborative group of diverse stakeholders coming together to support community wellness and ensure a recovery-ready community.  Current work groups include Stigma and Awareness, Screening, Recovery Hub, Transportation, Peer Recovery Supports, and Recovery Housing.

The mission of CARE is for Dearborn County to be an educated and unified community where individuals and families can safely and easily access reliable services and lasting support towards hope, recovery and meaning in life.
