(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana cities, towns, and counties can apply for the state’s Community Crossings grant program.

Governor Eric Holcomb announced the next call for projects Tuesday, July 2. The deadline for municipalities to apply is Friday, August 2.

Projects will be evaluated by the Indiana Department of Transportation based on need, traffic volume, local support, impact on connectivity and mobility within the community, and regional economic significance. Communities receiving funding will be notified by the Indiana Department of Transportation in the fall.

The Community Crossings program is part of the governor’s Next Level Roads program, a 20-year plan to enhance Indiana’s state highways and local roads.

“Our transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring Hoosier residents and businesses reach their full potential,” Holcomb said. “Community Crossings is a partnership between the state and local communities to make meaningful investments in transportation to catalyze economic growth, add jobs, attract and retain talent, all while promoting safety on every mile.”

The program was established by lawmakers in 2016 to help fund local road and bridge projects. Long-term funding was approved in House Enrolled Act 1002 of 2017.

Since the launch, the state has awarded more than $500 million in matching funds for projects around Indiana. The most recent round of grants announced in March included $4.8 million for eight local governments.
