Cincinnati Has Highest Ranked Hospitals In The Country

This study was done by Psy.D. Programs.

(Cincinnati, Oh.) - Being near the Queen City is beneficial to those living in Eagle Country when it comes to needing hospital services.

Cincinnati tied for first place in a study that ranked cities in the United States with the best and worst rated hospitals.

Psy.D. Programs looked at 2020 data that was published in January by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This data collected placed a quality value to 3,698 hospitals across the country, giving them 1 to 5 stars.

Sharing the title of city with best ranked hospitals is Austin, Texas. Both Cincinnati and Austin received an average rank of 3.9.

Cities were ranked based on categories such as patient experience, mortality, and safety of care.

In a second study, Psy.D. Programs ranked every state based on hospital performances.

The state of Indiana was ranked highest between the three states making up the tri-state area. The Hoosier state ranked 9th with an average score of 3.6.

Ohio had an average score of 3.5 and was ranked 11th.

Kentucky was ranked 39th and the received the lowest average score out of the three with 2.9.

To rank the United States from highest to lowest, all hospitals were grouped by state and the average score was calculated among hospitals that were given a star rating by the CMS.

"The CMS hospital data reveals there are huge disparities in the quality of care across America. For example, if you live in Las Vegas, almost every single hospital available is rated one-star. Other places like Cincinnati or Austin are virtually all four or five-star hospitals. While measuring health care quality is a challenging effort, the  Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data is a great starting point for finding out which hospitals are offering quality care and which ones are not.  As the old adage goes, you can’t improve what you don’t measure," says Ann Steele, Ph.D. Editor-In-Chief.
