The changes are being made following public input.

(Batesville, Ind.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation in coordination with the City of Batesville and nearby public officials announces project changes for the planned State Road 46 roadway improvement project in Batesville.

Following public involvement, the project team reviewed alternatives by evaluating additional roadway needs for S.R. 46 between State Road 129 and State Road 229. As a result, it was determined that the previously planned roadway right-sizing on S.R. 46 between S.R. 129 and S.R. 229 in Batesville will be eliminated from the project.

The planned S.R. 46 roadway improvement project now includes asphalt resurfacing and restriping on S.R. 46 between S.R. 229 and S.R. 129, installation of a dedicated left turn lane from eastbound S.R. 46 to Bedel Boulevard, and installation of a dedicated signalized left turn lane from eastbound and westbound S.R. 46 to Tekulve Road, replacing the left thru lane in each direction at Tekulve Road. All improvements will be made within existing pavement.

The project aims to improve the condition of the roadway and enhance safety and mobility along S.R. 46 in Batesville by reducing the frequency of rear-end crashes. The contract is currently scheduled to let to contractors in December 2025.

Additional project information will be provided by INDOT prior to the start of construction. Initial project information and the presentation from the May 5, 2025 public hearing are available online at Seymour.indot.in.gov
