Distribution of pediatric vaccinations started this week.
(Undated) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is officially recommending the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11.
On Tuesday, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ recommendation that children 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer pediatric vaccine.
According to the CDC, the COVID-19 vaccine authorized for this age group is over 90 percent effective at preventing COVID-19.
Distribution of pediatric vaccinations across the country started this week, with plans to scale up full capacity starting the week of November 8.
Dr. Walensky made the following statement:
“Together, with science leading the charge, we have taken another important step forward in our nation’s fight against the virus that causes COVID-19. We know millions of parents are eager to get their children vaccinated and with this decision, we now have recommended that about 28 million children receive a COVID-19 vaccine. As a mom, I encourage parents with questions to talk to their pediatrician, school nurse or local pharmacist to learn more about the vaccine and the importance of getting their children vaccinated.”
