(Bright, Ind.) – The Bright Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its original founders.
Julius Huffman passed away on Monday at the age of 93.
Huffman helped start the volunteer fire department in 1948. He would serve Bright Fire for over 60 years and was still helping on runs up to a year ago, according to the Bright Fire Department.
“His voice and presence will be truly missed along with his catch phrase “ok babe”, reads a statement from the fire department.
Aside from serving as a volunteer firefighter, Huffman also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.
He was also a member of Lawrenceburg Masonic Lodge F&AM #4, Bright Lions Club, Bright Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star Chapter #427, Murat Shrine Temple, and the American Legion. Huffman worked for CG&E, Miami Fort for over four decades, and later worked for the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office for 28 years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bright Providence Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow.
