Boone Co. Schools To Use Unexpected Revenue For Upgrades

The upgrades will take place at Boone County, Ryle, Conner and Cooper high schools.

(Boone County, Ky.) – An unexpected increase in revenue has the Boone County School Board thinking about two significant projects.

The Boone County License and Occupation Department revealed at last Thursday’s board meeting that $16.3 million has been transferred to the Boone County Board of Education, reports The NKY Tribune.

The funds are from an underpayment in taxes by a large company with a significant presence in Boone County.

The name of the company was not disclosed.

After learning about the funds, the Boone County School Board voted unanimously to put a large portion of the money towards two projects.

One project will see the construction of a $6.2 million auditorium at Boone County High School. The new 400 seat auditorium will include a band and choral room, restrooms, concessions and more. The current auditorium is expected to be altered into a multi-media classroom.

Approximately $4.78 million will be dedicated to upgrading athletic facilities at Ryle, Boone County, Conner and Cooper high schools.

The project consists of a retrofit turf field, track replacement, track coating and striping at Ryle High School. There will be full track rebuilds with rubber coating at Boone County and Conner high schools.

The track will remain at Cooper High School for removal of topsoil, installation of a full underdrain system, recrowning the field and installing a new curb with synthetic field turf.
