(Union, Ky.) – Big Bone State Lick State Historic Site is receiving state funding to upgrade the park.
State tourism officials announced Friday that Big Bone Lick will receive close to $1.1 million as part of the state’s Restoring the Finest initiative, reports the NKY Tribune.
The funding will be used to upgrade the park’s wastewater treatment plant and improved access to the bison viewing area.
Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore says the upgrades will improve the health and safety of park visitors, in addition to protecting the environment.
Big Bone Lick State Historic Site offers new displays on paleontology, Ordovician geology, ice age mammals, Native American history and more.
The park offers 62 spacious campsites, swimming pool and playground areas.
