Survey: Indiana Among States With Best Roads

Indiana ranked significantly higher than neighboring states of Kentucky and Ohio.

(Undated) – A recent survey shows that Indiana is among the states with the best roads in America.

According to Consumer Affairs, Indiana ranks third in the nation for best roads.

The formula for determining the worst and best roads in America used weighted averages of scores based on the most recent available data from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Some of the key categories included fatalities, miles traveled, road roughness, and spending on road improvements.

Key stats for Indiana include:

  • Fatalities per 100 miles driven: 1.17
  • Rural Roughness Score (% poor): 2 percent
  • Urban Roughness Score (% poor): 6 percent
  • Yearly spend on improvements: $3.7 million
  • Total spend on road expenditures: $4.3 million

Neighboring states of Ohio and Kentucky ranked 30th and 36th, respectively for the states with the worst roads.
