Batesville Schools To Begin School Year With Rolling Start

The first two days of school will serve as an orientation day.

(Batesville, Ind.) – Batesville Community School Corporation will implement a rolling start to the upcoming school year.

Typically, Batesville schools would hold open house, locker night, and/or freshman orientation to help prepare staff and students for the new school year.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions those events will not take place this year.

Instead, BCSC is implementing an innovative approach to help staff and students settle back into the classroom.

Superintendent Paul Ketcham tells Eagle Country 99.3 that students in pre-K, kindergarten, 3rd grade, 6th grade, 9th grade and 12th grade will report to school on Wednesday, August 5. Those grades will not report to school on Thursday, August 6.

All other grades will report on August 6, including grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11.

On Friday, August 7, all pre-K-12 students will attend school.

The rolling start is expected to create a smoother transition between school levels for students and to ensure a successful launch to an already challenging school year,” said Ketcham. “The school day will occur as a typical day with transportation, lunch, and regular arrival and dismissal times. The first day would be an orientation day. Students would learn schedules and map out their routes, meet teachers, and begin to develop relationships, learn locker locations and practice codes, and participate in other activities that will help create a smoother transition.”
