(Batesville, Ind.) – Batesville High School has begun the first phase of a Green Initiative project.

In partnership with Wood-Mizer, Sarah Jaisle and Randi Stirn’s English/Math Lab classes planted various types of fruit trees around the Batesville Community School Corporation campuses.

Once the trees start bearing fruit, students and teachers will be able to use the fruit as needed.

In the spring, the classes will partner with various community members and groups to plant hundreds of trees of a wide variety. The community project is intended to improve the health of the environment and the community while giving the students real-world experiences in a multitude of areas.

“The Batesville Community School Corporation has graciously agreed to help me create this project through Wood-Mizer,” said Cassie Holtel, Wood-Mizer Sales Administrator and Green Initiative Project Coordinator. “I am also working with Oldenburg Academy (OA), and between the BCSC and OA, we will also have 1,800 Indiana Department of Natural Resources trees to plant in March 2025. BCSC has been incredible to work with and I am so grateful for the opportunity to create this Green Initiative. I look forward to working with the high schoolers and seeing the trees provide benefits for generations to come.”
