(Batesville, Ind.) - The Batesville Fire Department is making a significant upgrade to its fleet.

A new Pierce Enforcer PUC has been ordered to replace Engine 48, a 1985 Pierce Arrow that has served the community for the past 40 years.

The new fire engine brings a host of modern features and benefits with increased storage capacity for equipment.

This will allow the department carry a wide variety of equipment and tools that can be used for all call types using a single apparatus.

The Pierce Enforcer PUC will carry 1,000 gallons of water, an increase of 250 gallons over the department's current first line engines.

"While the department is excited to receive this new fire engine, the current build time is estimated to be around three to four years. The timeline underscores the complexity and precision involved in constructing a modern fire apparatus that meets the specific needs of the department and community," reads a statement from Batesville Fire and Rescue.
