(Aurora, Ind.) – Signing up for a library card is as easy as 1,2,3.

The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month with Library-Mania.

This month, APLD members will receive a ticket to win cool prizes each time you show your library card at any of the APLD branches. New members who register for a library card this month will get an extra ticket to enter for prizes.

But that’s not all. Professional wrestlers from Tri-State Wrestling will visit the Aurora Public Library for a photo opportunity and a Q&A session with the public on October 19 at 6:00 p.m.

The Aurora Public Library District is officially fine free. In an effort to make items and resources as accessible as possible, the library is no longer charging overdue fines for late items and is wiping all overdue fines from all existing accounts.

So what exactly does that mean for you, our patrons?

  • The fine-free policy applies to ALL overdue items including books, magazines, DVDs, Blu-Rays, and audiobooks. So you won’t be charged any fines if you miss your due date!
  • Existing overdue fines will be waived from patrons’ accounts. This means any fines you have on your account from late items will be removed and everyone will have a clean slate. Existing fines for lost or damaged items cannot be waived, only overdue fines.
  • Patrons will still be charged the cost of the item if the item is lost or damaged. You are responsible for returning your items in a timely manner. Items are considered lost once they are 4 months past the original due date.

Free library cards at the Aurora Public Library District are available to anyone living in Caesar Creek, Center, Clay, Hogan, Manchester, Sparta, or Washington Townships in Dearborn County, educators who work at a school within those townships, or students who attend South Dearborn, Ivy Tech (with a student ID), or St. John’s. You must have a photo ID and proof of residency. Anyone 17 or under will need a parent or guardian to sign up for a card.
