Aurora Mayor Mark Drury Announces Re-Election Bid as Write-In Candidate

Drury previous announced in January that he would not run for election.

(Aurora, Ind.) – Mark Drury has decided to seek a second term as Mayor of Aurora.

In January, Drury announced that he would not seek re-election this year, citing “it was time for a change.”

After great consideration, and support from his wife, Drury has decided to run for re-election in November as a write-in candidate.

Drury was first elected Mayor in 2019, defeating Melvin Kremer Jr. in the General Election. Kremer is once again on the ballot as a Democrat, while Patrick Schwing will appear on the ballot as a Republican.

In February, it was my hope to pass on the reins to a new administration,” said Drury. “It appeared that due to the loss of time with COVID, key projects I was hoping to complete for the City were not going to happen. In July, however, there was an explosion of projects getting traction, moving forward with progress for Aurora. These key opportunities for progress in our city can be accomplished with more time.”

Some of the projects that are underway or planned for the future include Market Street reconstruction, Kopp property development, infill housing projects, Northside Trail Connector, annexation, Fifth Street housing expansion, and riverfront development.

A few projects that have already been completed under Drury's administration include the Family Aquatic Center, street paving projects, and US 50 flooding repairs.
