(Aurora, Ind.) - An Aurora man is accused of child neglect after police allegedly found illegal drugs in his home.

Indiana State Police responded to a report of an unconscious male at a home on the 5700 block of Lower Dillsboro Road on November 20.

Upon arriving at the scene, police say they located in plain view, a soda can with a white powder substance in it and a piece of cotton. Police also located a man who was not breathing. The unidentified male subsequently passed away.

Police asked the homeowner, Tony Carpenter, if he knew what the white powder substance was. While being questioned, police say Carpenter became angry and aggressive while holding his daughter.

Carpenter allegedly grabbed the soda can, crushed it, then threw the white powder at the responding officers. He was placed under arrest.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Carpenter initially resisted arrest by pulling his hands away and turning to go "face to face" with the officers. He was eventually handcuffed.

Police then conducted a search of the home, allegedly locating marijuana, numerous syringes and pieces of cotton.

Carpenter is charged with Neglect of a Dependent, Possession of a Syringe, Obstruction of Justice, Resisting Law Enforcement, Battery on Law Enforcement and Possession of Marijuana.

He is held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $3,500 cash bond and $15,000 surety bond.
