Aurora Elementary Students Bring Awareness To Hunger Issues

Sixth graders will be holding a food bank throughout December.

(Aurora, Ind.) – Aurora Elementary students are using the curriculum to help the hunger issues in our community.

Sixth grade students will be holding a food drive throughout the months of December to help donate needed items to The Clearninghouse in Aurora.

Chris Nobbe, an Aurora sixth grade teacher, tells Eagle County how this project-based learning (PBL) helps engage the students.

“The students have been researching, learning, sharing, and discussing the factors which contribute to hunger issues in our community as well as larger segments of our population and throughout the world,” explains Nobbe.

Students have worked together to create this event from researching the issue to creating posters and flyers. Most recently, they have decorated barrels in preparation for the nearing month of December.

This PBL has not only taught the children about a growing issue around the world, but how to become advocates for these problems in their community.

To help these students reach their goals, you can contact Chris Nobbe or Mary Bailey at Aurora Elementary School.
