(Aurora, Ind.) – An Aurora couple is accused of neglecting their 14-year-old daughter.

Donald and Leisa Ivey were arrested on March 25 and charged with Neglect of a Dependent (Level 6 felony).

The charges stem from a visit by Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputies to the Ivey’s home on the 9900 block of Bengal Lane in October of 2017.

Deputies say they found the living conditions at the Ivey’s mobile home to be unfit for a child to be living in.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the Ivey’s daughter said she didn’t have her own living space and that there were numerous mice and a large wild black snake living in the home.

Deputies added that the Ivey’s property was littered with trash, the floor of their home was covered with mud, there was no counter space for preparing meals and the bedroom appeared to be full of mess and dirty clothes.

Donald Ivey is currently being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $2,500 cash bond. Leisa has since bonded out.

The Ivey’s are scheduled to appear at a pre-trial hearing in Dearborn Superior Court I on Friday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m.

If a plea agreement is not made by July 30, a jury trial will be set for August 13 at 8:30 a.m.
