(Sunman, Ind.) - Progress is being made on a new education center at St. Nicholas Catholic School and Church in Sunman.

Earlier this year, the school reached a $3 million fundraising goal for phase one of its Heritage Project. Phase 1 is a new school building. Students get a prime view from their existing classrooms as construction on the new education center has been ongoing since April.

Principal Sherri Kirschner says they have embraced all the craziness that goes along with the construction.

“Whenever something exciting is going to happen on the construction site, teachers are encouraged to take their students out to watch for just a few minutes.  This has alleviated potential interruptions from students making excuses to sneak a peek,” Kirschner explains.

The school was intentional in selecting a theme for this school year: “The Builder of Everything is God.”

“How appropriate, when we are so blessed to have the opportunity to build a new school building, allowing us to continue to spread the good news of Jesus to so many young people in southeastern Indiana,” Kirschner says.

St. Nicholas parishioners and school families are still gathering pledges for phase two of the project, which is a new fellowship center. It will include an updated and expanded kitchen and dining area, a new gym, stage, and multipurpose space.
