"Appeals On Wheels" Cruise Into South Dearborn HS, Rising Sun HS

The Indiana Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in Aurora and Rising Son on October 29 and 30.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - You can get an in-person look at how the Indiana Court of Appeals works when the state’s second-highest court swings through southeastern Indiana next week.

The court is scheduled to hold two Appeals on Wheels events in Dearborn and Ohio counties. Judges John G. Baker, L. Mark Bailey, and Melissa S. May will be at the South Dearborn High School auditorium in Aurora on Monday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. for oral arguments in a real case, United Farm Family Mutual Insurance Company v. Stacy Matheny.

Arguments in a second case, Larry Ervin v. State of Indiana, will be heard next Tuesday, October 30 at 1:15 p.m. at Rising Sun High School. It will be the first time the Court of Appeals has ever heard arguments in Ohio County.

“The Court of Appeals hears oral arguments across Indiana to enable Hoosiers to observe the real-world issues that face the Court and learn more about the Court’s indispensable role in Indiana government. Audiences also get to observe skilled legal arguments and advocacy by some of Indiana’s best lawyers, against a backdrop of case-specific facts and statutory and constitutional law,” a news release stated.

In addition to school students, the public is welcome at both events in Aurora and Rising Sun.

The oral arguments will conclude with a question and answer session with the audience members, however, the judges won’t speak about the cases.
