Alcohol Suspected After Car Strikes House

Hospital staff had to notify police of the crash after two of the three victims showed up for treatment.

(Batesville, Ind.) – Three people were rushed to University of Cincinnati Medical Center after the vehicle they were riding in went off of a Ripley County road and struck a house.

Alcohol may have played a part in the wreck, and perhaps caused the victims to refrain from notifying first responders.

Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies say a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by Jacob L. Meadors, 18, of Sunman, wrecked at the intersection of County Line Road and County Road 650 North at around 3:11 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle struck a home and came to a rest in the yard.

Two of the occupants had gone to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Hospital staff notified Batesville Police that they had received two patients from a car crash. The staff was told there was still one person left at the crash scene.

First responders arrived at the scene and transported the third victim to Margaret Mary Hospital.

Meadors and an unnamed male passenger from Sunman were transported by ambulance to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

A 17-year-old female passenger was air transported to UC.

“The crash is under investigation. Alcohol is considered a factor,” deputies said in a news release.

Nobody inside the residence was hurt.

Other agencies assisting at the scene and in the investigation include Batesville Police, Rescue 20, Ripley County Medic, and Sunman Fire Department.
