Ace Moorman Field Dedication Set for Saturday

The ceremony will follow the OA vs. JCD varsity baseball game.

(Batesville, Ind.) - A special ceremony will be held on Saturday at Ace Moorman Field at Liberty Park in Batesville.

The historic field was established in 1921 after a deed was signed on September 16, 1920.

Earlier this year, the field was named "Ace" Moorman Field in memory of Thomas "Ace" Moorman, who passed away in 2024.

Moorman played on the very field that now holds his name. He started his baseball journey in 1940, playing for American Legion Post 271 while still in junior high school. He would go on to star for the undefeated Batesville Bulldogs and help Post 271 earn a trip to the American Legion State Finals. Moorman then graduated to the Tri-County League, playing for the Batesville Bullets.

After his playing days, Moorman coached for over 25 years.

His dedication to the game of baseball will be celebrated on Saturday with an Ace Moorman Field Dedication Ceremony scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

The dedication will follow the Oldenburg Academy versus Jac-Cen-Del varsity baseball game at 11:00 a.m. Batesville’s varsity baseball team will also be playing New Palestine at their new field at Batesville High School, starting at 11AM.
