(Madison, Ind.) - A Madison man accused of murdering an Aurora resident has died before he could go to trial.
Boyd D. Wright, 80, allegedly shot and killed Harry “Ken” Harris, 57, in Wright’s Madison home last July 12. Wright told Madison Police he shot Harris because he did approve of the relationship Harris had with his daughter.
Wright was transported from the Jefferson County Jail to Logansport State Hospital on Wednesday, the Madison Courier reports. He suffered a massive stroke the next day and died Friday, March 30, his attorney said.
In January, a Jefferson County judge declared Wright incompetent to stand trial following evaluations by doctors.
One of the doctors noted in their report that Wright's overall condition had deteriorated greatly from the time of his initial arrest.
Following Wright’s death, Jefferson County Prosecutor Chad Lewis told the newspaper the murder charge Wright will be dismissed once formal confirmation of Wright’s death is received.
