(Cincinnati, Oh.) – Opening Day is a holiday of sorts in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Typically, fans line the streets of downtown Cincinnati for their annual Opening Day Parade in excitement for the first Cincinnati Reds game of the season.
However, for the second consecutive year, the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade will not go on due to COVID-19.
In a letter to fans, parade chairman Neil Luken said, “The Findlay Market Association is sad to announce the postponement of the 2021 Findlay Market Opening Day Parade. Until the Cincinnati Reds are permitted to fill the stadium to full capacity and there are no restrictions on group events, we feel we cannot put on the type of extravaganza you have come to expect on Opening Day.”
Luken added that the Findlay Market Association will not begin planning for a parade until the Reds can accommodate a sold-out crowd of over 42,000 fans.
The Reds will welcome fans to Great American Ball Park at 30 percent capacity for Thursday’s opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
