(Cincinnati, Oh.) – Some last-minute rainfall on New Year’s Eve will help 2018 go down as the one of the wettest in Cincinnati's history.
The National Weather Service says 55.9 inches of rain fell in 2018, ranking third since record keeping began in 1871.
That's more than a foot above the average for the tri-state. Six of the 12 months of the year saw rainfall amounts above average.
It was a very wet start to the year, which led to historic flooding of the Ohio River last February and March. The river at Cincinnati crested at just over 60 feet, well over the 52 feet flood stage.
The all-time wettest year in the region remains 2011, when an astonishing 73.28 inches of precipitation fell. 1990 is second with 57.58 inches.
