SLSD to Hold Town Hall Events Amid State Budget Cut

The state's new budget will cut funding to SLSD by around $2 million.

(Harrison, Oh.) - In June, elected officials passed House Bill 96, the state's biennial operating budget bill for fiscal years 2026-2027.

According to Superintendent John Hamstra and Treasurer Thomas Lowe, the new state budget will decrease state funding for Southwest Local Schools by approximately $2 million dollars.

This could mean fewer teachers, larger class sizes, reduced programs and fewer opportunities for students.

These cuts mean $500 less per student each year due to the state change.

In response to the budget cut, the school district wants to have an open dialogue with parents and community members.

Two SLSD Town Hall events have been scheduled. They will take place Monday, September 29 and Monday, October 27th at Harrison Junior School Community Room.

Visit the Southwest Local School District Facebook page for details and to RSVP.
